Romance in Cambodia

Welcome to Siem Reap, Cambodia! Siem Reap is located in northwest Cambodia and is the closest city to the world famous, must-see, temples of Angkor. The provincial capital is also called Siem Reap and is located in the South of the province on the shores of the Tonle Sap Lake, the greatest sweet water reserve in whole Southeast Asia. It’s a laidback, lovely place to stay while touring the temples and offers the best of both worlds between observing Cambodian life and enjoying the amenities of modern services and entertainment. Although the Temples are the main ‘draw’ in this area there is much more to experience by traveling a little further in this region.

As a special evening in Siem Reap, we will go to see a show of the Cambodian Traditional Circus. More than just a circus, Phare performers use theater, music, dance and modern circus arts to tell uniquely Cambodian stories; historical, folk and modern. The young circus artists will astonish you with their energy, emotion, enthusiasm and talent.

Overnight in Siem Reap.

Meet your tour guide for an early morning rise to see the world-renowned Angkor Wat for sunrise. If the weather gods are with you the sun will rise behind Angkor Wat and provide the most stunning of silhouettes. Your guide will explain the stories in exquisite detail and provide you with ample time to explore the inner and outer grounds of the temple. A special champagne breakfast will be prepared in the Angkor zone.

The rest of the day is spent riding the back trails through ruins and forests and stopping at both iconic and less-known temples. Among others, we stop at the Bayon and Ta Prohm, both considered essential temples to visit. The last stop is Sra Srang and as the day heats up, we back to town and your hotel.

Today, we will go to discover remote temples, escaping the crowds by helicopter. During your flight your pilot will give you a narrative tour.

Beng Mealea is a sprawling jungle temple covering just over one kilometer. Largely overrun by vegetation and not overly visited due to its remote location, the temple gives off an adventurous ‘lost temple’ vibe as you explore the piles of stones from its towers and courtyards, hidden amidst the thriving bush. Enjoy a remote picnic lunch after exploring the ruins. Return back to hotel and afternoon is free at leisure.

Once the sun goes down, you will set off for evening foodie adventure aboard the back on a modern Vespa scooter. Start off at a chic bar for some cocktails or beer, then head off to the local hustle and bustle of street vendors, sights, aromas, and sounds that all blend together into the one feeling that embodies Siem. In the most unlikely surroundings and strictly among local clientele, real Khmer cuisine is served on this Siem Reap food tour. Taste Khmer delicacies while standing at street stalls or sitting picnic-style at a secret spot.

This acclaimed food tour of Siem Reap uniquely provides free flowing drinks and all you can eat, so come with an empty stomach as the expertly skillful driver will get you home safely.

Today, you will transfer to the airport for departing to Phnom Penh City. It takes approximately 1 hour.

Phnom Penh is Cambodia’s busy capital and sits where the Mekong and Tonle Sap rivers meet. It was a hub for both the Khmer Empire and French colonialists. On its walkable riverfront, lined with parks, trendy restaurants, and bars, are the ornate Royal Palace, Silver Pagoda, and the National Museum, displaying artifacts from around Cambodia. Despite its checkered past, Phnom Penh is in the midst of rapid change and growth, although it continues to exude a sort of provincial charm and tranquility with French colonial mansions and tree-lined boulevards amidst monumental Angkorian architecture. Eclectic and alluring it’s a Capital worth seeing.

Upon arrival, you will be met by your guide and transferred to your hotel. The rest of the day is free for leisure.

Meals included: Breakfast.
Overnight in Phnom Penh.

In the morning, visit Silk Island, home to a silk weaving village and silk center – to see the silk making process from beginning to end, a traditional craft in Cambodia. Locals sit at their looms, showing the intricate process still done by hand to this day. See the traditional-style local stilt houses where the silk weavers spend their days in the cool land under the homes making simple but delicate silk scarves and skirts.

We visit Koh Dach Pagoda, a bright yellow temple where we can see a variety of the island’s Water Festival boats that were designed for battle more than 1,000 years ago. If we have ample time, we stop at the nearby beach before heading to lunch.

Your afternoon is by cyclo to visit the Royal Palace and Silver Pagoda, name for the 5,000 silver tiles that cover the pagoda’s floor, known for its collection of gold, silver, crystal and bronze Buddha statues.

Continue to hilltop Wat Phnom, built in 1372 and standing 27 metres above the ground it is the tallest religious structure in the city. The interior has a central altar complex with a large bronze seated Buddha surrounded by other statues, flowers, candles and items of devotion and worship. The walls are covered with murals, especially of Jataka stories of the Buddha’s earlier reincarnations before his enlightenment.
