Introduction

GENERAL INFORMATION OF THAILAND

Thailand is a country in Southeast Asia. Formerly known as the Kingdom of Siam, the country is bordered by Myanmar, Malaysia, Cambodia, and Laos. Thailand is divided into 5 main regions:

The North, a mountainous region with fertile rivers. The Northeast, a vast plateau along the Mekong River with endless rice fields and preserved heritage. The Central Plain, a modern region bordering jungles and elephants. The East, home to natural parks, sanctuaries, and gemstone markets that will delight you. The South, a beach paradise with white sandy beaches and turquoise waters.

A country with multiple facets

Thai cuisine is one of the country’s greatest assets. Widely renowned, it’s known for its aromatic and spicy flavors. You can enjoy it in small sidewalk eateries, markets, specialized restaurants, or even gourmet establishments. You can savor marinated pork skewers, salads, squid, and various surprising juices.

Apart from exploring the country and discovering its treasures, you can engage in numerous activities. You can go diving in paradisiacal locations, take a Thai boxing class (a globally famous sport), get a massage at Wat Pho temple (remember that Thai massage is known to be quite invigorating). You can also explore Phang Nga Bay by kayak, or spend time with elephants in a sanctuary, often mistreated for tourist rides or performances.

Finally, you can take part in one of the most legendary parties in the world: the Full Moon Party. This wild and lively event, predominantly attended by foreigners, takes place once a month during the full moon.

Best moment to go to Thailand

The best time to visit Thailand is during the cool and dry season between November and early April, when temperatures range from 29°C to 34°C. However, the climate varies throughout the country and you can visit all year round.

In the South, the climate differs between the East and West coasts. The West coast is more favorable during the winter months, making it a popular time for diving and snorkeling.

The climate on the East coast of Thailand is good for most of the year. The lowest rainfall period is in January and February, while the highest is in November.
